Interview Preparation for Freshers & Professionals - How to Crack Any Interview

Interview preparation is essential for both freshers and experienced professionals to confidently present their skills and knowledge, according to their role. It involves understanding the job requirements and effectively communicating achievements and experiences. One thing you all know is that first impression is the last impressions.
So, proper preparation helps candidates make a strong first impression and increase their chances of getting the job. Today, through this guide, I’ll explain how to prepare for an interview to crack any job interview at a technical or non-technical level. Let’s begin!

Why is Interview Preparation Necessary?

Before going to any job interview, planning is mandatory if you don’t want to get rejected:
  • Proper planning helps you to understand the job role and employer expectations clearly, which helps you to communicate and impress the employer easily.
  • Most of the candidates get nervous during the interview, which affects the experience of the employer, and there is a chance you won’t get the job.
  • Pre-planning for a job interview helps you to make the cut-to-cut points of your skills, achievements and experience, which helps you to share every point without failure. This saves the employer, as well as those who are taking your interview.
  • Improves communication and presentation skills
  • Helps you handle tricky or unexpected questions better, as you practice or assume what type of questions they can ask, and you have already prepared for them.
I hope you now understand why interview preparation is needed. Next, I’ll share the best practices on how to prepare for a job interview.

How to Prepare for an Interview?

Here is the step-by-step checklist that I personally followed, and suggesting many of my friends who got the job:

#Step 1. Study the Job Description

Before touching your resume or opening Google, analyse the job description line by line, look for:
  • Required skills
  • Role responsibilities
  • Experience expectations
  • Soft skills mentioned
Match every line in your resume to determine if you are suitable for this job or not. If your past work won’t fit this role, then stepping back will be the wise decision.

#Step 2. Research the Company

Never go to an interview without proper research of the company:
  • What the company does
  • Who their customers are
  • What products or services do they sell
  • Their competitors
  • Their recent updates
This will help you to answer commonly asked questions, i.e. Why do you want to work here? You can answer according to your R&D about the company.

#Step 3. Interview Preparation Answers Using Real Experience

Prepare experience-based frameworks, say, like as per my experience, instead of bookish language. For every major topic, prepare:
  • What you did
  • How did it
  • What went wrong
  • How did you fix it
  • What was the result was
Interviewers hire people who can prove they have done the work. So, don’t focus on English speaking; instead, tell them what you have achieved.

#Step 4. Prepare for Technical Questions

If the role is technical, never rely on memory alone; making a proper interview preparation checklist is always a wise option. For the same, prepare for:
  • Practicing tools you will be asked about
  • Reviewing common interview questions for that role
  • Practicing live problem-solving
If you’reinterviewing for:
  • SharePoint
  • Office 365
  • Azure
  • Development
  • IT support
Then prepare yourself for questions like:
  • Can I explain this clearly?
  • Can I troubleshoot it live?
If you can’t explain it simply, you’re not ready, so don’t take a risk.

#Step 5. Prepare a Resume Professionally

For each point you are writing in your resume, prepare to defend every line of it, including:
  • What I did
  • What tools did I used
  • Why it mattered
  • What was the outcome
If it’s on my resume, I can explain it in detail.

#Step 6. Prepare for HR Questions

These are the questions that decide whether people like and trust you. So, always prepare stories for:
  • Conflict with a coworker
  • A failure
  • A success
  • A difficult customer
  • Worked under pressure
Don’t make up stories, use only real experiences and tell them honestly. Interviewers trust real stories more than perfect answers.

#Step 7. Practice Out Loud

Never practice silently, speak your answers:
  • In front of a mirror
  • On your phone
  • With a friend
  • Or by recording myself
This helps you to improve clarity and gain confidence.

#Step 8. Prepare Own Questions

When an interviewer asks, “Do you have any questions?” always say yes. For the same, prepare questions like:
  • What does success look like in this role?
  • How is performance measured?
  • What skills would help me grow here?

#Step 9. Prepare Documents and Setup

Before the interview, make sure:
  • Resume is clean and updated
  • LinkedIn profile matches your resume
  • Portfolio (if any) works
Validate these three points, as even small mistakes create bad impressions, so remove every risk.

#Step 10. Prepare Your Mindset

Always go in expecting to perform. So, remind yourself:
  • You’re qualified
  • You’re prepared
  • You’ve real experience
  • You’re here to solve their problems
These 10 sets of checklists will help you to crack any interveiew whether it is technical or non-technical level.
