The MagicSlides Story
MagicSlides was supposed to be a side project.
In 2022, our main project was SheetAI — an add-on that brought AI inside Google Sheets. One day, someone DM'd me on Twitter asking me to make a pitch deck for SheetAI. I'm a builder. Opening Google Slides and dragging text boxes around for hours sounded like hell. So instead of making the deck, I built a Google Slides add-on that could generate it.
I launched it on Reddit the same week. People used it. The side project ate the main project.
Over the next three years, MagicSlides grew way beyond a single Slides add-on. We shipped a standalone web tool, added support for PDFs, URLs, Word, Excel, and even an API. At our peak the team was 10–12 people, with 4+ writers publishing blog content full-time. That blog became the engine — SEO drove about 80% of new users, and we crossed 1M+ users and 1.3M+ presentations generated.
Then year three hit. Google rolled out content updates that hurt independent sites hard. Our blog traffic dropped. New signups slowed. Meanwhile existing users churned at the normal rate. For the first time, MagicSlides started losing more MRR than it was gaining.
That's where we are now. Honestly. The team is leaner. The roadmap is different. We're focused on direct distribution — the Google Workspace marketplace, founder-led launches, and building tools people actively search for (PDF to PPT, URL to PPT, Gamma to PPT) instead of writing 400 more blog posts hoping Google ranks them.
If you're reading this on the About page, you're probably thinking about whether to use MagicSlides. Straight answer: we're not the most polished AI presentation tool in 2026. But we're the one that ships real editable .pptx files, has a working Google Slides add-on, supports more input formats than almost anyone, and is built by a small team that'll personally answer if you email us.
