Make a spreadsheet with Claude Code
Claude Code can run npm outdated and npm audit in your project and check where each package is imported. It then saves the audit as a MagicSlides spreadsheet, so the team can plan upgrades from one shared table.
Set up MagicSlides in Claude Code (one time)
Run this once. Add --scope user to make MagicSlides available in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http magicslides https://www.magicslides.app/api/mcp/mcp/mcpPick magicslides and log in with MagicSlides in the browser tab that opens.
- 1.Run the command in your terminal.
- 2.Start claude, type /mcp, select magicslides and log in.
- 3.Ask for a deck. Claude Code calls the MagicSlides tools and prints the links.
Example: what you type in Claude Code
Audit the dependencies in this service. Run npm outdated and npm audit, find where each package is used, suggest an action and effort for each, and save it as a MagicSlides sheet.
- Ran npm outdated and npm audit in the repo
- Searched src/ for each package import to fill the Used in column
- Rated each upgrade S, M or L based on major version changes
- Called create_sheet with 13 rows (header plus 12 packages)
The dependency audit is saved as a MagicSlides sheet with 12 packages. axios has 2 advisories and is an easy upgrade, and express 5 and eslint 9 need planned work.
| Package | Current | Latest | Type | Behind | Known advisories | Used in | Action | Effort |
| express | 4.19.2 | 5.1.0 | runtime | major | 0 | src/server.ts | Plan upgrade, router API changes | M |
| zod | 3.22.4 | 3.25.76 | runtime | minor | 0 | src/schemas/* | Upgrade now | S |
| stripe | 14.25.0 | 18.5.0 | runtime | major | 0 | src/payments/stripe.ts | Upgrade with API version pin | M |
| pg | 8.11.3 | 8.16.3 | runtime | minor | 0 | src/db/pool.ts | Upgrade now | S |
| jsonwebtoken | 9.0.0 | 9.0.2 | runtime | patch | 0 | src/auth/verify.ts | Upgrade now | S |
| axios | 1.6.2 | 1.12.2 | runtime | minor | 2 | src/clients/tax.ts | Upgrade now, advisories fixed | S |
| dotenv | 16.3.1 | 17.2.3 | runtime | major | 0 | src/env.ts | Upgrade, check quiet option | S |

FAQ
Does Claude Code run the audit commands itself?
Yes. It runs shell commands such as npm outdated and npm audit in your project and reads the output.
Can it find where each package is used?
Yes. It reads local files and can search your source to fill in where each package is imported.
Why does the sheet link need sign-in?
Sheets return an editor link, which opens in the MagicSlides editor after you sign in.
Can I rerun it next month?
Yes. Ask Claude Code to rerun the audit and update the sheet with update_sheet, or create a new one.
