Make a PowerPoint with Claude Code
Claude Code can turn engineering work into a review deck without leaving the terminal. In this example it wrote a 6-slide CI speed-up retro for a fictional platform team and returned the present link and PPTX.
Set up MagicSlides in Claude Code (one time)
Run this once. Add --scope user to make MagicSlides available in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http magicslides https://www.magicslides.app/api/mcp/mcp/mcpPick magicslides and log in with MagicSlides in the browser tab that opens.
- 1.Run the command in your terminal.
- 2.Start claude, type /mcp, select magicslides and log in.
- 3.Ask for a deck. Claude Code calls the MagicSlides tools and prints the links.
Example: what you type in Claude Code
Make a 6-slide engineering review deck on how we cut CI from 22 to 7 minutes: where the time went, the four changes, before and after numbers, lessons, next quarter. Use creative-pulse.
- Outlined six slides: hero, stage chart, change timeline, results table, lessons, next steps
- Called get_template_schema (creative-pulse, 6 slides)
- Wrote the chart values, table rows and slide copy
- Called create_presentation_from_slots with stock images
Done. The 6-slide CI review deck has a per-stage chart, a before and after table and a next-quarter plan. Present link and PPTX are below.
This is the real output from that prompt, made with the MagicSlides MCP. Open it to click through or download it.
How it works
- 1.Run claude mcp add --transport http magicslides https://www.magicslides.app/api/mcp/mcp
- 2.Run /mcp inside Claude Code and log in with MagicSlides
- 3.Ask for the deck in plain English, with the template and slide count
- 4.Open the present link or download the PPTX from the reply
Tool used: create_presentation_from_slots. Prefer a web app? Topic to PPT does the same without an agent.
FAQ
Can Claude Code pull the numbers from my repo first?
Yes. It can read local files and run shell commands, so it can read CI logs or a metrics export before writing the slides.
Do I need an API key?
No. MagicSlides uses OAuth. Run /mcp in Claude Code and log in with your MagicSlides account.
Does this cost AI credits?
No. Claude Code writes the copy, so building from slots costs 0 MagicSlides AI credits.
Can I edit the deck after it is made?
Yes. The deck opens in the MagicSlides editor, and you can also download it as PPTX.
