Cursor + MagicSlides MCP

Turn a spreadsheet into a PPT with Cursor

Cursor's agent can read a CSV in your open repo, run a short script on it and write the slide copy from the output. With MagicSlides in your mcp.json, it builds the deck without leaving the editor.

Set up MagicSlides in Cursor (one time)

Use the one-click link, or paste this into your Cursor MCP config.

~/.cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "magicslides": {
      "url": "https://www.magicslides.app/api/mcp/mcp"
    }
  }
}
  1. 1.Click the install link, or open Settings → Tools & MCP → Add Custom MCP and paste the JSON.
  2. 2.Click Connect next to magicslides and log in with MagicSlides.
  3. 3.Ask the agent for a deck in chat. It calls MagicSlides and returns the links.

Example: what you type in Cursor

You

@data/annual.csv Use the GCAG rows to make a 5-slide deck on global temperature since 1850: decade averages, the warmest years and when each threshold was first crossed.

Source used: Global temperature time series, NOAA GCAG and NASA GISTEMP (datasets/global-temp annual.csv)

Cursor
  • Read @data/annual.csv and kept the GCAG rows for 1850 to 2025
  • Ran a Python script for decade means, top years and first year above 0, 0.5 and 1.0 C
  • Called get_template_schema (creative-pulse, 5 slides)
  • Wrote the slot copy and called create_presentation_from_slots with stock images

Your 5-slide deck is ready. The 2020 to 2025 average anomaly is +0.97 C, 2024 is the warmest year at +1.17 C (about 1.53 C above 1850 to 1900), and 2023 was the first year above +1.0 C.

This is the real output from that prompt, made with the MagicSlides MCP. Open it to click through or download it.

How it works

  1. 1.Add {"mcpServers":{"magicslides":{"url":"https://www.magicslides.app/api/mcp/mcp"}}} to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or use the one-click install link.
  2. 2.Log in with MagicSlides when Cursor asks.
  3. 3.In Agent mode, @-mention the CSV and ask for a deck with a slide count.
  4. 4.Open the present link or download the PPTX from the reply.

Tool used: create_presentation_from_slots. Prefer a web app? Excel to PPT does the same without an agent.

FAQ

Can Cursor read a CSV that is in my repo?

Yes. Agent mode reads the open repo, and you can @-mention the data file in your prompt.

How do I add MagicSlides to Cursor?

Add the magicslides server URL to ~/.cursor/mcp.json or use the one-click install link, then log in with MagicSlides.

Is the data sent to MagicSlides?

Only the slide copy the agent writes is sent. In this example the CSV was processed locally and the computed figures went onto the slides.

Does it use AI credits?

No. Cursor's agent writes the copy, and the bring-your-own-content path costs 0 AI credits.
